We grow up believing that we cannot trust ourselves, that we have to take care of others before us. That we have to trust more other people, specially authority figures.

We forget ourselves and we spend most of our life with an "others oriented attitude". When we are young most of us have been told that putting ourselves first is wrong and selfish

To have a relationship with yourself is to know yourself well.

  • What are you feeling and thinking?

  • What are your dreams and frustrations?

  • What makes you happy?

The best way to know yourself better is through self-observation and meditation. Instead of trying to avoid your issues, you just observe them, you became more conscious. If you are feeling anxious, instead of going to the refrigerator and grab something to eat, you can sit down quietly and observe your feelings and thoughts.

You will start to discover a lot of things about you. Self-awareness is the first step in the change process.

If you keep believing that is better to take care of others, trust them and not take care of yourself you will be stuck in suffering and resentment.

The best way to help other people and to take care of them is first building a strong relationship with yourself.

The most successful people are those who don't have any illusions about who they are. They know themselves well and they can move in the direction of their best talents.
