4 Ways to Stop Caring What Others Think

Are you always worried about what other people think of you?. Do you plan your outfits, your food choices, or your social activities solely around others’ opinions?.

Caring too much about what other people think is downright destructive. It can prevent you from living your life the way you want, and, instead, spending all of your time being completely preoccupied with other people.

People who never stop caring what others think eventually stop voicing their opinions and sticking up for themselves. They may go beyond something that seems innocent – like picking out clothes because they’re cool and trendy. They may go so far as to pick a job, a marriage partner, or spending habits that are designed to impress others – instead of making themselves happy. Before they know it, these people are shells of their former selves.

If you’ve fallen into this vicious cycle – or are afraid you might be headed in that direction – here’s how can you stop caring what others think:

  1. Remember that no one focuses on your “shortcomings” as much as you do.

  2. The truth is, everyone is too caught up in their own lives to focus on what you did or didn’t do, wear, or say. Something you see as a “shortcoming” may not even be a blip on anyone else’s radar!.


  3. Ask yourself why you care.

  4. Does it really matter what others think of you?. How do their opinions affect your life? If someone has a negative opinion of you, how will your life suffer because of it? Chances are, you’re giving far too much credit to thoughts and opinions that have no impact on your life. Need help?, try What Others Think.

  5. Remember that you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

  6. The old cliché is spot on. No one’s perfect. Find the greatest person you can think of, and someone, somewhere has a negative impression of them. It’s just the way life is. There may be times when people aren’t pleased with a decision you made. But, all the matters is pleasing yourself. If you’re happy and satisfied with your own life, then that’s good enough. .


  7. Give yourself a visual reminder.

  8. If you feel like you can’t stop caring what others think, write down these inspirational quotes, and pull them out whenever your mood needs a pick-me-up: - “You are always a valuable, worthwhile human being, not because anybody says so, not because you're successful, not because you make a lot of money, but because you decide to believe it and for no other reason.” – Wayne Dyer. - “In being true to your inner calling, you may ruffle some feathers but you’ll have the peace and satisfaction of knowing that you fulfilled your divine purpose and encouraged others to do the same.” – Braham Maslow - “Be what you are and say what you feel, because those who will mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” – Dr. Seuss.
