How can affirmations increase your self esteem to empower you and create a positive attitude
Self Esteem Newsletter Issue # 22
What are affirmations?. They are positive statements, which are used to describe a desired event, course of action, situation, or objective. They are usually repeated over and over, either as a meditation or every time a certain event or circumstance arises.
Their purpose is to be autosuggestions; they are programming the subconscious mind to bring about the desired things just mentioned. If affirmations are repeated with mindfulness and with a sincere faith in their power, they will change thought patterns and beliefs that reside in the subconscious mind. New patterns of behavior and new attitudes will be created.
Affirmations can be used to increase self-esteem by getting rid of ideas about ourselves which are no longer viable, or which were always delusional to begin with. Affirmations create mental images, which, as they get repeatedly conjured up, begin to become accepted by the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind responds by summoning all of its powers to make outer circumstances and experiences align with these new mental images. At least part of this will mean changing our habitual actions and the ways in which we interact with other people.
Self esteem affirmations are statements that you make to yourself. Actually you are all day affirming something. For example, when you repeat all the time: " I never win prices". This is a form of negative affirmation. But if you say: "I always win", is a form of positive affirmation.
Affirmations are good to replace defeating thinking or concepts that are no longer serving you. You can overcome negative feelings, opinions or attitudes about yourself .Any Affirmation for self esteem is an excellent tool to empower you. In doing so you start to realize that there is another way and you begin to take responsibility for your emotional health.
They also help building confidence to allow you to face change, take risks and create a better life.
There are many ways you may use them. Write, sing, listen or even read them.
Some steps to make them work better are:
- Develop awareness to become conscious of your Self Talk
- Pay attention to your self talk
- Take a thought, attitude, opinion or feeling that you find yourself constantly repeating that disempowers you.
- Turn the negative statement .
Let's say that you are working a problem. You are not able to find the solution and you catch yourself saying: " I can't do this". You turn this statement into an empower affirmation: " I am confident that I can do it right". Always state in the present, be positive, try to make it specific and add emotions. Remember, persistence is the key for improving your esteem. Once you make the statement use the best method that is best for you.
- Write the empower affirmation about 20 times a day.
- Sing them or listen to A Pack of Two Cds-subliminal
I highly recommend to check Motivational songs and motivational music
- Read them, one way is to read cards to empower you from I Can Do It Cards by Louise Hay. Post these cards in your home, workplace, car or give them to friends and family. They're sure to give you an enhanced sense of joy, power, and contentment!.
- There is an excellent cd to try: Affirmations
By Louise Hay. I strongly recommend this cd for building confidence and recognizing self worth.
Be persistent, be aware and choose the best method that is more suitable for your personality. Do them for at least three months and then see the results. As Tony Robbins says: Repetition is the mother of the skills.
