Have you ever noticed how well you do things that you actually like? If you're an actor, you probably enjoy and do better in acting than in singing. As a painter, you probably work better with paint and canvas compared to performing on the dance floor. This is because passion and self esteem are inextricably linked together, and enjoying and being passionate about what you're doing boosts your confidence, which in turn makes you do even better in the task you're given. This article takes a look at the link between the two, as well as the consequences of not following your desires.
Following your passion will result in confidence for great success. This is because your passion pushes you toward developing your skills in that area. Because you get more experience and skills in that field, you perform better, which in turn will boost your confidence. This is at the heart of the link between passion and self esteem, for it is not just in your interest that your confidence develops; it's also in how you continuously hone your skills so that you will be able to better work in the area that you love and are passionate about.
There are several negative consequences of not following your passion. These include:
Low self-confidence
People who don't like what they're doing often compare themselves to others who they perceive are better off than they are, and as a result, their confidence plummets. Compare that with someone who loves what he or she is doing. If a person is truly passionate about his or her work, then he or she won't even think about how others are faring, because they're happy and contented in where they are at that point in time.
Regrets
"What if ", "What would have happened if" These are only some questions people ask if they're dissatisfied about where they are right now. If they're not passionate about what they're doing, regrets will pop up left and right, because they're not happy about where they are.
Blaming
Those who aren't passionate about their work have a tendency to blame just about anyone and everything, because it's easy to do. Unfortunately, it's also counterproductive, since they'll end up exerting a lot of their time and effort on things that they can't do anything about, even those that they don't even like in the first place.
Of course, passion isn't always a good thing. There are two kinds of passion that exist: harmonious passion and obsessive passion. Harmonious passion is about pursuing your interests that will help you grow as a person. By pursuing your interests, you will enhance not only your skills, but also your sense of self. Obsessive passion, on the other hand, is uncontrollable. You pursue things on and on even if you don't want to do it anymore. As such, obsessive passion is unhealthy, because you end up ignoring things, even those that are important, because you've focused too much on your subject. As such, be sure to evaluate yourself regularly about what your passions are. If it's harmonious passion that you're feeling, then you're on the right track. If you're experiencing obsessive passion, that's a different story, because pursuing this can mean going down the road to self-destruction.
Of course, it can be difficult for some people to identify what their passions are and that's perfectly fine. A lot of people spend their entire lifetime looking for things to be passionate about. The important thing is for you to be open-minded and to be open to new experiences. That way, you will be able to find that one thing that you can be passionate about. By aligning passion and self esteem, you will be able to find happiness and satisfaction in your life.
