Perfectionism is an irrational way of thinking that everything in you must be perfect. You believe that flawlessness must be present in your life and everything that you do. You think that even if you gave your best effort but there where mistakes, it is unacceptable. Such feeling will stop you from doing what you want if you think you can't do it perfectly. Because of not accepting yourself as a human being that commits mistakes, you suffer from the negative consequences of it. The negative effects of wanting to be perfect are explained below.
- You may feel guilty whenever you commit mistakes and because of it, you may constantly feel bad and punish yourself. This will make you feel that you are not really capable of doing things.
- You may be depressed because of wanting to be perfect. You might constantly worry that you can't do it perfectly. It will make you anxious of being perfect. Depression can make you exhausted especially when you can't reach your goals.
- Low self-confidence can be present in you, too. When you can't do what you want perfectly, you may feel worthless and that there is nothing you can achieve. Because of this, you will not want to try new things.
