Building positive self image takes time and patience. You can learn to develop a positive self image because it entails what you perceive yourself to be.
It is only a matter of self-awareness and positive thinking to improve it. If you value the type of person that you are, you are proud of who you are. Loving yourself is the first step.
The importance of self image exceeds beyond what people normally think.
- It totally affects the way a person comes out to society.
- how a person will react to others
- whether or not the person is a contributing member to society.
- A low self image could lead a person to do crimes and acts of hatred towards others and even lead to depression.
A positive self image, on the other hand, can lead a person to love himself and others. For a select number of people there is relationship with eating disorders, particularly anorexia and bulimia. There are people who see their bodies as imperfect no matter how good they already are. These persons will go to extra lengths so as to make their bodies seem better, hence bringing forth eating disorders.
Eating disorders such as binging and purging establish a psychological effect on a person but usually fails to satisfy the person’s wants on an ideal body . This disturbance in body image will bring forth more eating disorders which will further degrade the body. Like an endless loop, this disorder must be stopped.
Tips for building positive self image
- Listen to your Self talk . Sometimes people carry a mental dialogue where self-criticism comes to play. Learn what you usually say or feel about yourself and then replace those with positive thoughts and motivational thoughts. You have to support yourself by learning to root for yourself. Start paying attention about what you say and what you think. Remember that you inner dialog will create your thoughts and feelings about you.
- Identify childhood labels. Take note of what you were and how people looked at you when you were once a child. Most of the comments you heard are not always true, it was only an opinion that others had. Eliminate any painful memories and try to focus on positive and strengthening ones. Perhaps the most essential tip is to learn to love yourself. By loving yourself you acknowledge the fact that you are proud of yourself. If sometimes your self-love falters, you can always seek positive affirmations of yourself. Positive affirmations can bring your spirits up and motivate you.
- Acknowledge your accomplishments and surround with supportive friends. Accept your imperfections and cultivate self-appreciation. Be grateful.
- View mistakes as opportunities to learn. Try new things and take risks. Exercise and play.
Building positive self image can boost your overall performance in life and enhance your self esteem. Start living the life you deserve and feel positive about who you are.
