Change the way you look at yourself by Carla Valencia
If you feel that you lack self esteem, you need to ask yourself why you have this lack. A great deal of the time, you’ll discover that you live with an internal war wherein you are always comparing yourself to others.
In this constant fight you are constantly exposing yourself to criticism, anger , and sadness. This struggle gets in the way of you seeing yourself for who you really are.
If you are someone like that, it is time to change the way you look at yourself.
Tips for Changing the Way You Look at Yourself
- You’ll need perseverance and commitment to build self esteem. When you’re working on achieving high self esteem, giving up is not an option.
- Begin by becoming a best friend to yourself instead of your own worst enemy. Stand up for yourself and face your low self esteem , along with all the fears that come with it. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you have the ability to be joyful, confident, and successful, and that you will commit to making any changes necessary to feeling this way because you are valuable and deserve it, just like everyone else does. Your fears will answer you back like demons, trying to keep possessing you; they will tell you that you are wrong, that you can’t live the life you want. Be prepared for these lies. Don’t give in to them.
- Stop comparing yourself to others. You are you and not anyone else, and never will be anyone else. You are unique. Everyone is different and we all have different talents and knowledge. Value what you have and who you are. You don’t need to be anyone else. If you have regrets or dreams that you never realized, stop looking backward on your regrets while asking yourself if you still have time to realize those dreams; and if you don’t, just formulate new ones and commit to them.
- Accept yourself as you are. Once you have achieved this acceptance , everybody else will accept you, whether they even realize it or not.
- To maintain a healthy, high level of self esteem you must be motivated . Stop feeling sorry for yourself and start changing the way you look at yourself. Change requires effort. But remember that if you think you can change, then you can.
- If you lack self esteem and self confidence, ask yourself why. Is it because you are fat, or you are too thin, or “not smart enough”, etc? Make sure you are clear about it, and then do something about it. Seek help if you cannot do it alone.
- Make a list of the things you like about yourself. Write down anything that you think is beautiful or good about yourself. Make these things your new focus, rather than your real or imagined flaws. Focusing on your strengths will enable you to start changing the way you look at yourself. Achieving self esteem is a process, not an event, and it begins within yourself.
Conclusion
Self esteem is very important to your well-being. If you lack self esteem, it’s not just yourself that you harm; you also do harm to others, especially those who care about you. Usually, people hurt others because they are hurting. You are worthy to feel wondrous, and to see life as positive. So do it.
