Self Esteem and Health

Many people never realize that our self-esteem influences our behaviors and attitudes. There is a close relationship between self-esteem and health. People with a healthy Self Esteem have a tendency to take care of themselves by eating well, exercising , and generally being good to themselves and to others.

Self esteem is a measure of how much you value yourself. If you really think you matter and make a difference, you are going to do your best to maintain your health physically and emotionally, and you will also maintain "good grooming" which also makes you healthier. You will always want to perform and interact at an optimal leve. You will always want to look your best. You will never believe that you "deserve" health-compromising things like being stressed out from overwork or taking abuse from others.

PHYSICAL PROBLEMS CAN BE CAUSED BY LOW SELF-ESTEEM

  1. Insomnia: The less sleep you get the more likely you are to perform poorly, become depressed, and have problems concentrating. In fact, insomnia has been linked with increased risk of obesity. If you are suffering from insomnia, please check out Cure insomnia and wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and energetic.
  2. Self-harm: People who have been abused physically, emotionally, or sexually have a tendency to self-harm. They can do it by "cutting" themselves (but not to kill themselves) because of their low self esteem. If your self-esteem is low, you may think you "deserve" to feel physical or emotional pain. You may just not care if you get hurt. Please check Self-Hate and Bodily Harm: The Breakthrough Healing Program For Self-Injuries
  3. Eating disorders: Eating is one of the most commonly used means of comforting oneself or escaping. If you have low self-esteem, you may want to escape the thoughts and feelings of being "no good" and turn to eating when you aren't even hungry as a means of escapism and risk becoming overweight or obese. The most common causes of Eating disorders are low self-esteem and poor Self-image. On the other end of the spectrum, anorexia nervosa is caused by feelings of inadequacy brought on by low self-esteem. If you feel inadequate, you won't feel like eating, or (especially if you are female) you might decide that you aren't "slender enough" and decide the only way to look good is to eat as little as possible. 4. Hypertension: Common causes of hypertension are obesity, lack of exercise, and extreme emotional stress. People with low self-esteem have a negative attitude and, thus, have the tendency to view challenges in life as problems that they probably cannot solve; so they tend to become lethargic and/or make excuses as to why they "can't" do something and don't even try, and this leads to the conditions that, in turn, lead to hypertension. (Do you have high blood pressure? Try the Lower high pressure download. But, remember this is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle and the treatment your doctor recommends. What it will do is allow you to distinguish psychological causes from physical causes.)
  5. Depression: People who lack self-esteem are much more prone to falling into clinical depression than others are. Depression itself is not a physical symptom, but it definitely leads to several physical problems including constipation, constant aches and pains, nausea, a lack of energy, even an interference with motor functions that can, in turn, obviously lead to serious and possibly deadly problems. Coming out of depression is designed to help you feel positive and strong about your future as depression starts to fade from your life. Conclusion

Lack of self-esteem is, in the end, caused by delusions. We have probably all fantasized about being something that we don't have it in us to be. But that is no reason to fall into a lack of self-esteem. We can live, and therefore are meant to live, one or more of the other things we have fantasized about.

Past abuses or trauma, or just wrong ideas learned as a child, can also condition us into lacking self-esteem. But the past is dead; and wrong ideas can be righted. People with good self-esteem may remember yesterday, but they are living today.
