I have found that being grateful is one of the best ways for building self-esteem. When we are grateful for our life, who we are and what we have, we feel joy. Even if things are not going the way we want, if we focus on being grateful we will feel good about this feelings and will help us to build our esteem.

There are many ways you can practice gratitude.
- Take a walk and while you do it, be grateful for everything in your life.
- Write a letter to yourself to connect with feeling of appreciation. It will not only help building your self esteem but it will also help you to have a different perspective of your life.
- Make a list every morning. Today I am grateful for and keep writing. Let those thing you are taken for granted come to you acknowledge how grateful you are to have them in your life.
When you are grateful you are in touch with yourself. You appreciate what you have and you value everything in your life. You do not take things or people for granted. You can be grateful of a lot of things, even if you are waking on the street and you see a baby, or the sun, or the trees or maybe a puppy. This means that you can practice gratitude all day long. If you are facing difficulties try to practice gratitude anyway. It will help you to face this negative circumstances in a different way and maintain your high self esteem.

A healthy self esteem starts with a good relationship with you and in order to create it you have to feel good. Dr. Phil says that you have the power to be miserable the rest of your life or you can choose to be happy. You can also give yourself permission to heal. If you want to maintain your high self esteem decide to be grateful. For me this was a hard thing to do because I was always focusing on what went wrong until I found out that being grateful made feel really good.
